The Hero’s Journey: So You Want To Start A Creative Arts Ministry?
Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.
St. Francis of Assisi
The New Testament is about people. It’s about discipleship. Art by itself does not equip people to do ministry, which is the main purpose of the church. There is, however, something inherently captivating about art. It arrests our attention and invites people into a story. It’s completely human and it reveals the mystery of the Gospel in unique ways.
We live in a world that is increasingly hungry for encounters with God. Liturgical art provides pathways for these encounters that are often too deep for words. Many churches are embracing the arts again.
The purpose of art and religion are the same… Transformation.
Kenyon Adams
There’s a growing desire to develop creative arts ministry programs. But there’s an invisible barrier that prevents churches from engaging talented creatives.

What is needed is a mentor – one to provide confidence, insight, advice and training to overcome the initial fears and face the threshold of the adventure. You need someone to walk alongside you, raise the stakes, and force some action.
You are the Hero, whether pastor, elder or artist. And you’re on a journey to bring the creative arts into your church.
